Introducing Aborcom Resources
Aborcom Resources
Dear Chief and Council,
Hello / Tanisi. Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is George J. Morissette and I am a member of the Mistawasis Cree Nation of Saskatchewan. I reside in the small community of Rockland, Ontario a short distance east of Ottawa / Gatineau. I am proud to introduce to you my company Aborcom Resources Corporation (“Aborcom Resources”) which I founded on June 21, 2013.
After 11 years of working with Canada’s federal government, most of which with Indigenous Affairs and Northern Development Canada, I took the step forward to create my company with the mission to assist Bands and organizations in taking that step forward in realizing greater autonomy and control over their financial future and be a corporate player in enhancing their economic development and community initiatives, which includes assisting Bands taking control over their Indian moneys.
For the majority of my career with Indigenous Affairs I served at a national level as one of two Band Moneys Advisor providing advice to Indigenous Affairs senior and executive management in the administration of the Indian moneys provisions of the Indian Act and the First Nations Oil and Gas and
Moneys Management Act. As part of my duties I also provided advice on the administration of settlement moneys with respect to claims negotiations with the Crown, and advice regarding federal reserve land management with Indian moneys implications.
Career highlights: In August 2011, I was the lead advisor to recommend the Minister of Indigenous Affairs and Northern Development approve the release of $11.7 million of capital Indian moneys, pursuant to a settlement agreement between Canada and the Huron-Wendat Nation of Quebec, into its private trust. Notably, in that same month I was the lead advisor to recommend the Minister approve the transfer of $240 million of capital Indian moneys of the Ermineskin Cree Nation of Alberta into its private trust. In March 2014, I was also the lead advisor in the implementation process for the First Nations Oil and Gas and Moneys Management Act whereby the Kawacatoose First Nation of Saskatchewan became the first community in Canada to assume legal authority over the management and control of its’ Indian moneys, that would no longer be administered by Canada under the Indian Act.
Since 2008, while working with Canada’s department of Indigenous Affairs, I have recommended the approval and release of over $365 million of Indian moneys to Bands.
For your convenience, my company information can be found at: www.aborcomresources.ca. I may also be reached by email at: aborcom.resources@gmail.com.
I thank you for your time and consideration and look forward to speaking with you in the future to explore how I may help your community with its initiatives.
George J. Morissette

Playing the White Man’s Game
‘Playing the White Man’s Games’ tells the extraordinary stories of Native American athletes who not only overcame tremendous obstacles to play, but dominated the NFL, CFL, PGA, Olympic Games, NHL and Professional Wrestling.
Thorpe, who ABC TV has dubbed “Athlete of the Century,” began his track and field career by besting the competition on the college varsity high jump team — wearing street shoes—then went on to win gold medals in the decathlon and pentathlon at the 1912 Olympic Games. But he didn’t stop there. Next he tackled football, dominating the NCAA and NFL. After that he turned his talents to major league baseball. In all, Thorpe excelled in every one of the twenty-two sports he attempted… including a national championship in ballroom dancing.
Meet Billy Mills, who improved his best time by an unheard of fifty seconds to win the 10,000-metre Olympic race in “the greatest upset in Olympic history.”
Notah Begay III, the grandson of a Navajo code talker, had played golf only on public courses until he won four PGA tournaments in his first two years on the pro golf tour.
The incomparable Ed “Wahoo” McDaniel was an NFL star who also won hundreds of professional wrestling championships.
Along the way he fought thousands of matches, and received over 3,000 stitches. Never one to back down from a challenge, he once washed down a gallon of jalapeño peppers with a quart of motor oil on a dare.
The fascinating stories of these colourful characters, sometimes referred to as the “forgotten Americans,” shows how these Native American were heroes, not only on the field of play, but in their communities, where they were both role models and champions for Native history and culture.
